Only available over the summer months, as the name would suggest, it has a honey spiced, slightly sweet flavour with overtones of ginger which targets the beer at the occasional beer drinker and the female market. Very successfully I might add, if my observations at the local supermarket are anything to go by.
Being that it is only available for a limited time it a beer to be anticipated and enjoyed while it is here.
I only wish that someone would educate Monteiths about the use of screw caps for who carries a bottle opener when they are at a beach BBQ these days.
That aside, why am I mentioning this as autumn arrives with a vengeance?
Because despite what the marketing gurus might want us to believe, Monteiths Summer Ale need not be just a beer for summer. The trial pack which hit our house has long gone... and in its place a stockpile collected from the local off licence to see the winter through...
Fashion no longer respects four seasons in a year - why should beer?
