Imagine walls draped with strawberries, ceilings created from bales of hay and furniture crafted from retired road signs.
You'd think you were on a farm, right? Wrong.
Welcome to Perth's enex100's innovative new bar, the Greenhouse - made entirely from recycled and recyclable materials.
Everything about the Greenhouse is environmental sustainability at its best.
Instead of ordering trucks filled with fresh produce, which add to the carbon footprint, Greenhouse decided to plant its own crops - therefore, expect to sit amongst some of the ingredients used in your meal, such as the planted herbs, vegetables, fruits and honey (coming from an actual bee hive on sight), as you eat your meal in the roof-top garden.
Remember those old car tyres of yours? It may be just those ones that made their way to the Greenhouse bar, as recycled tyres are used as the garden floor while 4000 terracotta potted strawberry plants have been used to form the outer walls.
Near your table, worms will be busy turning the kitchen scraps into compost, which will later be used in the garden.
And as for the furniture? Expect to see chairs made from old road signs, tables from man-hole covers and fire hydrants, and lamp shades made from fencing wire.
Unlike most restaurants and bars, there will be no air conditioning or heating. Instead, there will be 420 fire-safe bales of hay, which help insulate the building, keeping it at a stable temperature year round and cutting down on the energy used and emissions caused by large heating and cooling systems.
Even the supporting structure of the Greenhouse bar is made from a 100 per cent recyclable steel frame.
See? Being green really can work.
