Milkmen in the UK milkmen are celebrating more than 150 years of the Great British milk delivery service and the next step in the evolution of the milkman - the 21st century modern milkman has gone digital and moved online, transforming the service that started in the late 1850s.
The milkman as we know him started when customer demand for home milk delivery prompted the milkman to pick up a low-wheeled cart to make his many deliveries. Since then, he has become a reliable fixture in the local community and a much loved institution, with 62 per cent of Brits taking part in a survey by Opinion Matters on September 28 naming the milkman as someone that represents what the traditional community is all about.
Now Dairy Crest hs taken him online, and expanded the product range, offering homes in England and Wales over 250 everydayitems to be delivered to their doorstep.
Dairy Crest's new online service, milk&more, will see more than 2600 milkmen and women offering customers the their traditional service updated with technology.
Customers simply log on at http://www.milkandmore.co.uk and place an order, which can be made up to 9pm for delivery on the next round. This free delivery service caters to all requirements and with no minimum order; customers can have as little as a pint of milk delivered one day, to a full crate of everyday essentials.
Dairy Crest spokesperson, Mike Sheldon, commented: "milk&more combines the tradition and familiarity of the doorstep milk delivery service with the convenience of online shopping. It's still your local milkman but a brand new service, bringing homes a range of products from breakfast essentials to cleaning and garden products."
