The days where water bottles were nothing more than just plastic and food packaging was nothing more than just a protective sleeve with nutritional information, seem to be something of the distant past, thanks to companies like Tetra Pak and Amcor.
With thousands of products on supermarket shelves, the competition (to attract consumers) has never been tougher and the innovative packaging ideas have never been better.
You can now buy food products to match your bag, your mood and even to match your furniture/interior design.
Who ever said food, fashion and art could never mix?
Yes, now you can look stylish while eating your food, look snazzy while putting on your sunscreen and even look trendy while drinking a cold beverage.
Food and product packaging, is no longer just packaging.
After searching high and low for some of the most creative product packaging out there and let me say, I was amazed, we came up with some interesting ones.

Do the Dew
This is one of Mountain Dews artistic packaging under the green label art campaign.
The bottles have become so popular that they have become collectibles. |
Due to the success of the campaign, Mountain Dew has gone on to do three volumes of the artistic bottles and have helped promote the artists behind the bottles design.
There you go, a bit of art, while you drink.

How to use the packaging: It's art! Spice up your fridge or your pantry. You could even use it as a vase. It is almost too cool to throw away...
Here were the other interesting ones:
Simplicity for your Interior design? (Japan)

Thanks to 100% Chocolate cafe, you can now make your chocolate fit in with the colors of your walls, furniture etc.
This is a very simple idea by a Japanese company which brings the simplicity of color and graphic design together and of course, chocolate.
In the cafe's where the chocolates are sold, the chocolate bars are used as part of the interior design features.
There are 54 different chocolate bars.
How to use the packaging: With so many colors, i reckon you could use the chocolate wrappers as a color swatches when choosing what color you want to paint your house...or not...
Who needs fruits, when you got juice... (Japan...again)

Forget the traditional juice boxes to convince your kids or yourself to drink fruit juices. Japanese company Naoto Fukasawa has made juice boxes that look like the fruit.
Now you can pretend that you are having the real thing.
A gallery of other cool packaging:

Red Wine

Recycled brown bag chips

Sunscreen and 'Fresh' Coconut water

Deodorant that lights up

Cheese in a can

Single use lipstick applicators
Wine Casket Pink Ribbon cookies from Stonewall Kitchen
Final say...In todays (2009 that is...) society, where environmental issues are of major concern, it makes me wonder if it is possible to embrace these innovative designs and still be environmentally friendly. How will we dispose of all these products which are sometimes non biodegradable?
Perhaps recycling the packaging? Vodka bottle today, water pitcher tomorrow?
